Rescue Me ID: 17-04-30-00324Miya (female)

Dutch Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hi, my name is Miya and I am looking for someone to love me as much as I love you. I am a tall and slender 3 year old Dutch Shepherd (mix). I would much rather talk about how strong, proud and full of energy I am than my weight but I know it may be important to you so I will say it is in the 60+ pound range. I am definitely not a small dog though if you will let me I will spend as much time trying to get on your lap as I can. If you try to ignore my loving stares and gentle head nudges I will make sure to let you know I need you by trying to hold your hand, I know sometimes I may be trying too hard but I really just want to be close to you. ... (Read More)I would be happiest if we were hugging. I came to IL from TN with my boyfriend and 2 puppies but I am ready to make a life of my own as the kids are old enough to take care of themselves now. I am currently in a foster home with a 4 month old puppy and I love playing with him so much. He doesn't know that I let him win as often as I do in tag, tug-a-rope and wrestling. I share my toys and food with him too. I also love my new small foster people, I think they call them children. The smallest, who I heard is about the same age as me, is so much fun and her hugs are the best. She can have my toys anytime and I have no problem with her taking them out of my mouth so we can keep playing. My foster family has taken me on a few walks and I am figuring out what this thing around my neck is all about. I like walks, there is so much to see and smell but I need a little practice navigating all the new things I encounter. I know where I need to go potty and will wait for you at the door to let me out. I love having a fenced yard to run around in and sniff the spring air and chase my new dog friend but if you make sure to take me for walks often I would probably be ok without a fence. At night I have a nice crate where I sleep but a few times I have fallen asleep on my bed and my foster dad said he didn't have the heart to wake me. I thought that was really nice of him but I really don't mind the crate. I hope to hear from you soon. I know we will be best friends. Hugs and Kisses Miya. Our standard adoption fee is $295 cash or check and $300 credit card ($5 processing fee). Kaesly would do best in a home that is semi-quiet and that has another dog to give her confidence. She will make a wonderful addition to a family that understands that it will take her a bit of time to get into her groove! Illinois law requires that all of our dogs and puppies be spay/neutered within 30 days of adoption. Rescue Me ID: 17-04-27-00586Fern AKA Shelly (female)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Fern! Australian Shepherd Mix DOB 1/31/13 Fern came to us in early 2013 as a puppy and was adopted to a family that named her Shelly...that is where her AKA name comes from! Her previous family has a male dog that is not neutered, creating an odd dynamic between the 2 dogs. This dynamic caused some jealousy between the 2 dogs and Fern becoming protective of her family. The family has decided that it would be best to find her another home and has returned her to our rescue. Fern was evaluated by Millbrook Veterinary clinic and found to be good dog that needs to be given attention and know that she is loved. We also had her ... (Read More)evaluated by the trainers at Woof Beach who found her to be a very trainable dog that may be feeding off of the energy in the home. They suggested that rehoming would be best for her. We then asked one of our boarding partners - The Water Bowl to take her in and observe her behavior. She has been there for just about a week and is a big hit with everyone! Fern has been absolutely wonderful with both male and female humans that she interacts with and wants nothing more than to be the center of attention and be loved. She freely gives kisses and is determined to please. They have also introduced her to dogs of all ages and sizes. She interacts wonderfully in her play groups with male and female dogs alike. Just today, she was running and playing with a group of about 6 other dogs and having a wonderful time. Fern is looking for a family that she can give all of her love to and only wants to be loved in return. If you are that family...willing to give unconditional love...please ask us how to meet Fern! Well, we aren't sure if our Jill actually tumbled or not, but at some point in her puppy life, she broke her leg in several places. Rescue Me ID: 17-03-31-00405Penelope (female)

Chihuahua Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

This is Penelope, an approximate 4-year-old Chihuahua mix. In Greek mythology, Penelope is Odysseus' wife, who patiently waited 20 years for his return. She too has been patiently waiting for her forever- home. Penelope's foster mom says she's an amazing girl with so much potential; it's just that shelter life has taken a bit of a toll and she needs a special person or couple with patience, compassion, and perseverance to continue her growth and rehabilitation. Penelope can be one of the most loving and silly dogs once she learns to trust you. She craves affection and wants nothing more than to be a best friend and loyal companion. She ... (Read More)adores spending time in the sun, curled up as a lap dog, getting belly rubs, snacking on chew sticks, and going outdoors. While she will happily join you for lazy time on the couch, she appreciates a bit of daily play time and exercise, too. She's a quick learner and extremely eager to please. Need a buddy to alert you to strange noises around the house? She's your gal! She has proven to be trustworthy while alone in other rooms, but since she can jump rather well and enjoys a bit of inspecting, crating her while out of house is best. Likely due to past experiences, Penelope is fearful and submissive when she meets people. This means she may growl and bark in fear, as well as roll on her back in submission. She is house broken, however, the submissiveness means she may wet in fear until trust in the relationship is established. She seems more hesitant to warm up to men, but continues to work on becoming more comfortable with her foster dad. After three weeks, she still barks at him when he makes an appearance until she remembers he's OK. However, she is already showing improvements in many areas. An ideal match would be a low-key type of single adult or adult couple without children. She may sound the locator bark for a bit when crated since she doesn't like when her people leave, but after living in a shelter, can you blame her? Penelope has done well around calm dogs on walks, so another dog in the house could be possible. She does not have food aggression. She may try to 'cover up' her bone or toy if you try to take it but has never snapped. She currently has a strong aversion to children and loud sounds which could improve with continued therapy and socialization. Penelope is fast on her feet and loves being outdoors, so she needs be leashed or in a fenced-in yard that she can't escape from. Our standard adoption fee is $295 cash or check and $300 credit card ($5 processing fee).
