Lab Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Vaccinations Current

Meet Lacey Lab/Plott Hound Mix DOB 9/2/16 Sweet Lacey is a beautiful striped mix. Her pictures don't even do this beauty justice. If you like tigers, this girl is for you! Besides being beautiful, she is sweet as pie and loves a good cuddle! Lacey is still working on potty training, but she's a smart girl and so she's coming along quickly. She walks nicely on a leash and would benefit from continued training as she's maturing. She does know sit and down. Since we think she is part hound mix, we recommend that she be leashed at all times as she likes to chase cats, small animals and birds. Lacey is shy and not sure of loud noises, ... (Read More)but she is learning to become confident. She would benefit having someone home most of the day as she is like Velcro with her foster parents. She doesn't love being in her crate (sleeps in bed with her foster family) and would prefer to be around her people. She rides well in the car. Lacey is looking for a quiet and gentle family who understands that she is a sweet and delicate girl who just wants to be loved! Illinois law requires that all of our dogs and puppies be spay/neutered within 30 days of adoption. In order to fully comply with this regulation and reduce the number of homeless dogs and puppies, we do not permit out of state adoptions of unaltered dogs or puppies. Puppies have special needs and require a home where there will be someone available to care for, socialize, and train them during the day. If your family is away from the home for several hours at a time, please consider adopting a 'teen' or adult dog. Our standard adoption fee is $295 cash or check and $300 credit card ($5 processing fee).     Meet Jill! Lab Mix Currently 36 lbs. DOB 12/1/2015 The nursery rhyme goes, that Jack fell down and broke his crown and Jill came tumbling after. Well, we aren't sure if our Jill actually tumbled or not, but at some point in her puppy life, she broke her leg in several places. When she got to rescue, the vets took several looks at her leg and determined the best course of action would be to remove it. Jill is much more playful and happy without the leg that was in such disrepair. Jill is an amazing dog! She's fully housebroken and crate trained. She walks well on a leash and has absolutely no restrictions with her leg, she gets ... (Read More)around just fine! Jill loves other dogs and also does well with the cat in her foster home. Rescue Me ID: 17-03-31-00405Penelope (female)

Chihuahua Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

This is Penelope, an approximate 4-year-old Chihuahua mix. In Greek mythology, Penelope is Odysseus' wife, who patiently waited 20 years for his return. She too has been patiently waiting for her forever- home. Penelope's foster mom says she's an amazing girl with so much potential; it's just that shelter life has taken a bit of a toll and she needs a special person or couple with patience, compassion, and perseverance to continue her growth and rehabilitation. Penelope can be one of the most loving and silly dogs once she learns to trust you. She craves affection and wants nothing more than to be a best friend and loyal companion. She ... (Read More)adores spending time in the sun, curled up as a lap dog, getting belly rubs, snacking on chew sticks, and going outdoors. While she will happily join you for lazy time on the couch, she appreciates a bit of daily play time and exercise, too. She's a quick learner and extremely eager to please. Need a buddy to alert you to strange noises around the house? She's your gal! She has proven to be trustworthy while alone in other rooms, but since she can jump rather well and enjoys a bit of inspecting, crating her while out of house is best. Likely due to past experiences, Penelope is fearful and submissive when she meets people. This means she may growl and bark in fear, as well as roll on her back in submission. She is house broken, however, the submissiveness means she may wet in fear until trust in the relationship is established. She seems more hesitant to warm up to men, but continues to work on becoming more comfortable with her foster dad. After three weeks, she still barks at him when he makes an appearance until she remembers he's OK. However, she is already showing improvements in many areas. An ideal match would be a low-key type of single adult or adult couple without children. She may sound the locator bark for a bit when crated since she doesn't like when her people leave, but after living in a shelter, can you blame her? Penelope has done well around calm dogs on walks, so another dog in the house could be possible. She does not have food aggression. She may try to 'cover up' her bone or toy if you try to take it but has never snapped. She currently has a strong aversion to children and loud sounds which could improve with continued therapy and socialization. Penelope is fast on her feet and loves being outdoors, so she needs be leashed or in a fenced-in yard that she can't escape from. Our standard adoption fee is $295 cash or check and $300 credit card ($5 processing fee).
